Chaudhary Devi Lal
University, named after Jan Nayak (late) Chaudhary Devi Lal, the
former Deputy Prime Minister of India, who belonged to this region
of Haryana state. The University was established by the Government
of Haryana by an Act of Legislature in the year 2003 (Act No.9/2003)
and was inaugurated on April 5, 2003. The University, located at
Sirsa at a distance of 256 kms from Delhi and 285 from Chandigarh,
has a sprawling campus of 348 acres on the Barnala Road. The
National Highway No. 10 and the Delhi-Rewari-Bathinda Railway Line
pass through Sirsa. The squadron head quarter of Indian Air Force
with an airport is also in the vicinity of Sirsa city. Though Sirsa
is situated in Haryana, it adjoins both Punjab and Rajasthan. The
University has great potential for developing into a Centre of
Academic Excellence to cater the students belonging to Haryana and
other states of the country.
